Cai Guoqiang
ai Guoqiang (1957, Fujian Province) is considered one of the world’s most original and inventive installation and performance artists. Commonly thought of as a magician artist, Cai Guoqiang has been known to use gunpowder, fireworks and explosions to create beautiful scenes and canvases. He has also used clay, wood, rocks and even Chinese herbal medicine to transform cultural objects into modern art pieces. Cai was chosen along with Xu Bing and Zhao Wuji to exhibit at the opening of I.M. Pei's new museum in Suzhou. He won the Golden Lion Award at the 48th Venice Biennale. The artist now lives in New York.
