By ArtZineChina

ince the year of 2003, with the support from all corners of the society, ART Shanghai has been the window of exchange for the Shanghai metropolitan region. Through the years, there has been more internationalized across a wider spectrum of art. There has been a total of over 700 art institutions participated, with more than 150 thousand visitors and a turnover of 150 million yuan.

From April 16 to 20th 2009, the Seventh ART Shanghai will be gathering hundreds of art galleries around the world in a total area over 8,000 square meters to start the spring journey of art.

More than over 100 galleries and art institutions, from ten countries and regions including China, Korea, Japan, Italy, US, Uruguay, Russian, Porto Rico and Cuba, will take part. Compared with last year’s exhibit, the total number of galleries remains the same. Besides the domestic and Japanese participants, there are new additions from China and Latin America. ART Shanghai opens at a period of market consolidation, taking a step forward to grab early opportunities. It continues its “boutique” positioning to progress on a stable foundation.

ART Shanghai is arranged in five main sections----

“Voices come from the Youth includes Super Heroes” – the New Forces from Guangzhou from Orange Gallery. As always, Jinse Gallery of Chongqing, Jingzhe Art of Shanghai, Fine Arts World and others will bring in fresh dynamics highlighting the visual culture of the youth.

“Art galleries come from the Latin America” -- The Latin-American Pavilion (LAP) is a space for the Development of Latin American Art/Culture in Asia, a place where the great masters encounter the emerging new artists of the American-Continent. Within The Latin-American Pavilion we find galleries which specialize in Latin-American Art with various origins in Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America, all of which today exhibit through it, the works of renowned artists from the continent.

“Japanese contemporary arts” will be led by Ueda Gallery and a+s Gallery, presenting works of Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama and young artists Akase Mifusa and Nobuo Sekine.

“Contemporary porcelain sculptures” -- It is the new art form this year. He Yue Ci Ming Gallery and Jing Tong Studio will have their exclusive display area, brining new attention. FYR Gallery will bring 25 pieces of sculpture of Salvador Dali, including the famous Frame of Time and the Triumphant Elephant towering six meters. All of them will represent the master of art with a complete thought and extraordinary creativity.

“Gathering of traditional classics”

This year’s exhibit will start the Journey of ART Shanghai, a non-profit event. This budget priced one-day visit to art institutions will bring professional art service with high quality. With the concept of “live a life though arts”, it aims to bring arts to the mass.

In addition, ART Shanghai cooperates with AirMedia to bring “saloon hours” to airports, exploring a new media form to offer valued service to participating institutions.
