Asian Contemporary Art Fair in New York

ew York's first art fair devoted to Asian contemporary art opened on November 8. The Asian Contemporary Art Fair, which ran through November 12, debuted at Pier 92 in Manhattan with new works by a front line of contemporary masters and a fascinating selection of work in varied media by emerging artists who are setting tomorrow's trends. About 80 exhibitors from over 10 countries showed at the fair. There were also lectures, performances and other events. Among those speaking were Christopher Phillips of the International Center of Photography in New York, Zhang Xiaoming from Sotheby's, Richard Vine from Art in America and Wu Hung, a distinguished professor of art at the University of Chicago participated. There were also works from a range of artists including Ai Weiwei, Xing Jing and younger Asian artists. The New York Times reviewed the fair earlier in the month. Xu Bing also spoke during the fair. Among the participating galleries were Alexander Ochs, China Square in New York, Arario, Ethan Cohen Gallery, Zendai MoMa of Shanghai and Red Gate Gallery in Beijing.
