ART BEIJING 2007

rtBeijing 2007 is organizing the largest contemporary art activity in Beijing’s history, with main exhibition venues exceeding 20,000 square meters. The coordinated activities take the new hall of the Agricultural Museum as its center, and influence all major art districts in Beijing, establishing an atmosphere of Beijing international contemporary art festival.

ArtBeijing 2007 has spared no resources when inviting Ryoji Ikeda, world class master of experimental electronic music, he will perform his new work “Digital Permeation” at 8 pm on the evening before the tentative opening of ArtBeijing 2007. His performance has received wide acclaim from international contemporary art circles. American producer Rick Widmer’s short film “Eyes Contact” documenting contemporary Chinese art will also be shown for the first time on the same evening. Other exhibitions include: "Art Un-forbidden" -- Academic Invitation Art Competition of Asian Galleries, and Three Dimensional Viewing Mirror-International Visual Art Exhibition, Spanish Visual Art Exhibition, all of which are top-notch world-class exhibitions.

For the first time in the history of contemporary art in China there will be a participation of 30 world renowned video artists from all over the world. Never before have so many important video artist gathered at the same time for viewing. The space allocated for these artist proves by its enormous size how important of an event this is.

So far participating galleries this year total 116, including invited thematic exhibitors, most of which are prominent galleries working on the highest level. There are 49 galleries from abroad, approximately 40% of the total, while domestic galleries number 67, approximately 60% of the total, and these are from all over China. Eighty percent of all galleries are Asian. Overseas galleries are respectively from: Taiwan 7, Hong Kong 4, Japan 13, Singapore 1, the Philippines 1, Thailand 1, the U.S. 5, Italy 1, Austria 1, Spain 1, Belgium 1, Germany 2, France 2, the UK 1. Domestic galleries are from: Beijing 51, Shanghai 8, Guangzhou 2, Hangzhou 2, Wuhan 1, Nanjing 1, Suzhou 1, Chengdu 1. Important masterpieces will have plentiful representation at the Fair, including those of Marc Chagall, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Yoko Ono, Kim Changlie and such famous artists as Luo Guanzhong, Wang Huaiqing, Shang Yang, Xia Xiaowan, Cheng Wenji, Fang Lijun, Wang Guangyi, Li Zhen, Liu Ye, Zeng Hao, Ji Dachun, Yi Chaoyang, Wang Qingsong, Feng Zhengjie, Zeng Fanzhi, Mao Yan, and Zhou Chunya.

Contemporary Art Fairs are not only about commercial transactions. Instead, they should also provide opportunities for junior artists, Avant-Garde art concepts, emerging art galleries, and rising collecting enterprises. The Fair should find a New Face and a New Thrill for art collectors. In addition to renowned artists many galleries will be recommending the works of artists with huge potentials and therefore worthy of collecting. ArtBeijing will make it worth your while to see this.

September 23 will be a day open to the general public in Beijing. Entrance will be only 10 yuan. This will allow ordinary citizens and students to access and improve their understanding of contemporary art in a deeper sense.

The Organizing Committee will make the wide range of their collection of recent exhibition catalogues available in the VIP Lounge, to be presented like a library, so that the artist-promoting functions of galleries will be strengthened.

Visitors will embark on a bus journey commencing at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center to visit 798, Caochangdi and Huantie Art Districts, so that they will maximize their understanding of the development of both contemporary Chinese art and contemporary art fields in the shortest time possible. Art will lead Beijing into a sleepless night whereas various art activities in collaboration with various banquets give the optimal pleasure to people immersed in art.
