 a Liuming (1969 Hubei) is one of China's best-known performance artists. He studied oil painting at Hubei Aademy of Fine Arts. Beginning in the 1990s, Ma was living in Beijing's east village community, and creating photograhs, installations and shocking performances that showed him cooking in the nude, devising his own transgender character, known as Fen Ma Liuming, wrapping his naked body in plastic. He also participated in some well known performances and photographs with Zhang Huan and other prominent performance artists. He was once even jailed for his racy and wild performances. Now, photographs of his early performances and his paintings of Fen Ma and babies are popular in the auction world. Ma Liuming lives and works in Beijing. |
