an Pei Ming (1960 Shanghai) is one of the most talented Chinese born figurative painters. Yan, who now works in Paris and has lived in Europe since 1980,is best known for his dark, smudge-like portraits of people, like Mao, Bruce Lee, police officers and even self portraits. He is widely recognized in Europe for his dramatic, slashing brush strokes that look blurry up close but come into view as one steps back. His work is often in large format black and white, with great details and textures. The artist’s work now sells for as much as $100,000 for a single painting. |
