ui Jianguo (1956 Shandong) is considered one of China's most important sculptors. Sui's works can often be seen as symbols of China's transition from communism to capitalism. His best known works are his huge bronze Mao suits sculptures, giant toy dinosaurs (representative of a nation now considered the factory floor of the world) and his "Made in China" banners or signs. Early in his career, Sui Jianguo was also recognized internationally for a wide variety of naturalistic sculptures that involved rocks and boulders that had been extensively re-engineered, split, hammered and reshaped. Sui lives in Beijing and teaches at Beijing's Central Academy of Fine Arts. |
